ལྟར་ - like - word combinations
We have question words such as ཅི་ལྟར་ ci ltar - how, ཇི་ལྟར་ ji thar, how, how is that and དེ་ལྟར་ན་ de ltar na if so. And pointing out words such as དེ་ལྟར་ de thar, according to that, ད་ལྟར་ da thar just now,་གང་ལྟར་ gang ltar, however.
ལྟར་ is used after other words to build new constructs such as ལོ་ལྟར་ every year, མ་ལྟར་ like a mother, ཆུ་ལྟར་ like water, སྒྱུ་མ་ལྟར་ like a mirage and so forth. If you read རྣམ་ཐར་ (biography) literature you might find expressions of the teachers qualities in forms of ཕྱི་ལྟར་ outerly, ནང་ལྟར་ inwardly and གསང་བ་ལྟར་ secretly. This shows another way of translating ལྟར་ combination with -ly constructs.

ཐུགས་རྗེ་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་འཇའ་ཚོན་ལྟ་བུ་རུ་བཞེངས་པའི། །
tukje trulku jatsön tabu ru shyeng pé
And compassion, like a rainbow, arises as nirmāṇakāya.
འདི་ལྟར་བསྟན་པའི་བདག་པོ་སངས་རྒྱས་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས། །
di tar tenpé dakpo sangyé chomdendé
Through the merit of this brief praise of

གསེར་གྱི་རི་ལྟར་གཟི་བརྗིད་དཔལ་འབར་བ། །
ser gyi ri tar ziji pal barwa
Like a mountain of gold, magnificent, he shines in splendour,
བདག་ཀྱང་ཁྱེད་ལྟར་སྦྱིན་པ་ཡི། །
dak kyang khyé tar jinpa yi
May I too accomplish the transcendent perfection
འདུས་བྱས་ཆོས་རྣམས་དེ་ལྟར་བལྟ། །
düjé chö nam detar ta
Know all compounded phenomena to be like this.
ཇི་ལྟར་སྔོན་གྱི་བདེ་གཤེགས་ཀྱི། །
jitar ngön gyi deshek kyi
Just as the sugatas of former times
གང་གི་བློ་གྲོས་སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་སྤྲིན་བྲལ་ཉི་ལྟར་རྣམ་དག་རབ་གསལ་བས། །
gang gi lodrö drib nyi trindral nyi tar namdak rabsalwé
Your wisdom is brilliant and pure like the sun, free from the clouds of the two obscurations.
མ་ལྟར་བྱམས་དང་སྲིང་ལྟར་རབ་གདུང་ཞིང་། །
ma tar jam dang sing tar rab dung shying
You who have a mother’s love and sister’s ardent care,
གང་ལྟར་དམིགས་པ་དེ་བཞིན་ཉིད་དུ་མིན། །
gang tar mikpa dé shyin nyi du min
No matter what its focus, it never accords with how things are.
དེ་ལྟར་ན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་ཟང་ཟིང་གི་སྦྱིན་པ་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།
detar na changchub sempa zangzing gi jinpa pünsum tsokpa yin no
Such is the bodhisattvas’ perfect giving of material things.
ནང་ལྟར་འཇམ་དཔལ་དྲི་མེད་བཤེས་གཉེན་ཞབས། །
nang tar jampal drimé shenyen shap
