Translations of མཉམ་མེད་

མཉམ་མེད་ mnyam med (Sanskrit asama) is an interesting word that is translated differently based on the context or just what words where used. You see it a lot when describing the 'indescribable' qualities of a teacher or high being. To start the མེད་ indicates a negation of the word མཉམ་  equal, similar, alike. So it's the opposite of this. 

So instead of a lot of words how this was translated, let's take a look at various examples from various translators:

བླ་མ་མ་ཉམ་མེད་སངས་རྒྱས་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །

Incomparable masters, precious buddhas, as your nature

མཉམ་མེད་བླ་མ་མཆོག་གི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །

May there be the auspiciousness of the lama, who is without equal!

མཉམ་མེད་གུ་རུ་ཁྱོད་དང་མཚུངས་པར་ཤོག །

O Peerless Guru, may we become equal to you!

མཉམ་མེད་ཇོ་བོ་རྗེ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

Incomparable lord Atiśa, to you I pray!

འདྲེན་པ་མཉམ་མེད་ཤཱཀྱའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་དང་། །

Unequalled guide, king of the Śākyas,

༄༅། །བཀའ་དྲིན་མཉམ་མེད་རིག་འཛིན་འགྲོ་འདུལ་དཔའ་བོ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་པ་བྱིན་རླབས་བདུད་རྩི་ཞེས་བྱ་བ།

ཁྱད་པར་བཀའ་དྲིན་མཉམ་མེད་པདྨ་འབྱུང༌། །

And especially, the Lotus-born Guru, whose kindness is beyond compare,

མགོན་གཅིག་བསྡུས་མཉམ་མེད་སྐྱོབ་པ་རྗེ༎

He unites all protection. Protector! You are incomparable,

འཇིག་རྟེན་མགོན་དང་མཉམ་མེད་སུ་ཞིག་ལྷག

Who can equal the Lord of the World, let alone be greater?

དེ་ནི་མཉམ་པ་ཉིད་དེ་མི་མཉམ་མེད།

It has equality and has no inequality.
