འཁོར་ - 'khor

 འཁོར་ 'khor is a very common word or part of a word you see in Tibetan texts. This word is used in the context of a circle, disk, retinue, entourage, sphere, circuit. Or you could say that anything which relates to a circular grouping of form could have འཁོར་ as part of the word. Sometimes you need to see from the context what འཁོར་ means, for example in the case of འཁོར་འདས་སྤང་ - abandon samsara and nirvana, here འཁོར་ is short for འཁོར་བ་ , samsara, this word is related to the cyclic existence which is samsara.

A common use for འཁོར་ is related to the Sanskrit word cakra.  ཆོས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོ་ is dharmacakra, or dharma wheel. The tantric literature has a lot of cakra related Tibetan words. ཚོགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོ་ is ganacakra, or the tantric feast gathering (in a circle). དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་ is mandala. 

འཁོར་གསུམ་ 'khor gsum three conceptual spheres is an important concept in practicing ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་,  if any or all of those three are present or grasped, then the act of perfection is not perfect.

འཁོར་དང་མྱ་ངན་འདས་པའི་ཆོས་སུ་སྣང་། །

That all the phenomena of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa come about.

ཚོགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོའི་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་ནི༔

Are arranged the delights of the feast-offering.

འཁོར་ལོ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།། ནོར་བུ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།།

The precious wheel, the precious gem,

དགེ་ལ་ཡི་རང་ཆོས་འཁོར་བསྐོར་བར་བསྐུལ༔

And rejoice in all that is virtuous; I urge you to turn the wheel of Dharma,

སྣོད་བཅུད་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་གསུམ་གྱི་ངང་༔

Beings and the environment have the nature of the three maṇḍalas.

འཁོར་གསུམ་ཡེ་ཀློང་ངང་དུ་མཚམས་བཅད་དོ། །

The primordial expanse beyond the three spheres, the boundary is set!

མཐར་ནི་བླ་མ་འཁོར་བཅས་འོད་དུ་ཞུ། །

Finally, the guru and his retinue melt into light

ཀུན་བཟང་བདེ་ཆེན་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོར་འབུལ༔

I offer as Samantabhadra’s unending gaṇacakra of great bliss.

དེ་ནས་རྒྱལ་བ་འཁོར་བཅས་བསོད་ནམས་ཀྱི་ཞིང་དུ་སྤྱན་འདྲེན་པ་ནི།

Inviting the Buddhas and their Entourages as a Field of Merit

ཆོས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོ་བསྐོར་ནས་གདུལ་བྱ་རྣམས། །

Turned the wheel of Dharma in sacred places like Vārāṇasī,

རྒྱུག་པའི་འགྲོ་བ་འཁོར་ལོ་གསུམ་གྱི་གྲུས། །

On the ship of the three turnings of the Wheel of Dharma, you save

རིག་འཛིན་མཁའ་འགྲོ་མང་པོའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར། །

Surrounded by a retinue of many vidyādharas and ḍākinīs

འཁོར་གསུམ་ཡེ་ཀློང་ངང་དུ་མཚམས་བཅད་དོ། །

The primordial expanse beyond the three spheres, the boundary is set!
